Rating the Googleness of Being
(rt) In a thread bizarrely titled “On the Googleness of Being …”, Michael Martinez, long time search engine optimization veteran (albeit not in a servicing, professional capacity, and shrewd industry monitor, published this excellent piece on J. K. Bowman’s equally excellent Spider-Food Forums back in February – and it’s no exaggeration if we say that it’s turned a classic already!
In his view, a lot of received SEO wisdom needs some thorough rethinking if webmasters want to achieve or maintain top Google rankings. For one thing, according to his observation smaller sites currently tend to be favored at the expense of super duper web properties with tens of thousands of pages.
Granted, his take on the evolution and current state of the Google ranking algorithm with his concepts of TimeRank, Trusted Content Site, Child Inheritance, List Inheritance, etc. is self-admittedly speculative in the sense that Google won’t confirm or deny even so much as its basic tenets, secretive bunch that they are. Still it’s one of the best and most plausible experienced-based analyses we have seen in a long, long while. Good, thoughtful follow-up postings, too.
But is it relevant to everyday SEO? Most certainly: read here about the (as yet still hypothetical but eminently plausible) mechanics of salvaging burnt, i. e. penalized domains and IP; how to effectively influence possible age based ranking factors, why reciprocal link campaigns won’t cut the mustard anymore, why outbound links may be more important than inbound ones these days, etc. etc.
Must, must, must read – truly five-star material! Do it here (and make sure to follow the thread because it comes in multiple parts):
