fantomSpot:
The Turbo Meta
(rt) TurboScout is a meta search engine with a difference: not only does it allow users to access and compare original results from over 90 search engines across 7 categories on a single web page, removing the hassle of retyping keywords into different search engines. It is also about 20 times faster due to the reduced overload involving typing the same search terms over and again.
Designed by 21 year old William Chee of Singapore, it was basically born out of sheer annoyance. Says Chee: “Grown out of the frustration of typing and retyping keywords into different search engines, I decided to create an online search tool to get rid of these hassles.”
Beyond this, TurboScout also helps users to find images, search encyclopedias, check out latest news, look for interesting blogs, find songs and videos, and even compare prices from major online retailers and auction sites.
Another nice feature we liked particularly: TurboScout gives you quick access to the original results directly from each search engines instead of compiled results across the search engines as most metas tend to do. Of course, it’s a bit ironic that metas such as Dogpile and Mamma are included in the list, and so are clustering engines like Wisenut, Clusty, and Teoma.
Using TurboScout’s customize feature, you can easily set up a homepage with quick access to all search engines and your favorite web site on the same page. And because there’s no toolbar to install, you won’t expose yourself to toolbar-related spy-ware, ad-ware and security concerns. Obviously, with a Web based solution, you won’t need to deal with toolbar software patches and upgrades, either.
For Firefox users there’s also an extension available, integrating it with their browser: Users can add this extension with just a click from → http://www.turboscout.com/firefox, no download or installation required.
A very nifty tool no serious SEO / SEM agent will want to do without!
