Confusing Customers Is No Viable Business Model
(rt) Old SEO hand DigitalGhost posted an interesting piece on his DG’s Desk blog titled “Why Are Newcomers So Confused About SEO?” placing the responsibility load squarely on the SEO industry’s shoulders. When interested non-pros set out on a search for the “Golden Rule” of search engine optimization, they are bound to lose themselves in the thicket of fundamentally opposed, mutually exclusive tips, views, rantings by countless both self-declared and bona fide, bespoke SEO experts, gurus, and evangelists. While it’s hardly surprising to find conflicting views in just about any industry, SEO /SEM may arguably be blatantly overdoing it to its own detriment as it effectively destroys customers’ trust.
A major part of the problem is simply lack of reliable research and testing:
The industry has to start becoming more proactive rather than continue to use the reactionary practices that are now being applied. It is not enough to simply think like a search engine engineer, you have to think like a search engine engineer that is thinking two years into the future.
A good read!
