Inside Uncover The Net
(rt) Though directories have overall become something of an exotic fringe phenomenon in search marketing, they nevertheless constitute a lively, fairly interesting scene of newcomers with an attitude, challenging the “old boys” of search.
In October 2004, Shawn Walters launched his new directory → Uncover The Net, an entirely human-edited Internet directory somewhat reminiscent of early days Yahoo! (company motto: “The search engine powered by Humans, not Machines”).
He happens to be a buddy of Seobook webmaster and author → Aaron Wall who interviewed him recently about the going-ons at the directory and his general take on both search in general and SEO in particular.
Among the many tidbits some are worth noting, e. g. the fact that UTN is planning to start charging a higher submission price to offset increased expenses. They have also switched from featuring Google’s AdSense to Overture sponsored listings. Says Shawn:
“ I don’t like the fact that Adsense is so strict on its rules, and how it’s a predetermined size in a JavaScript code. Google is a great company, but everyone I talked to at Adsense is so scared of saying what it is on their mind (and actually helping me) almost seemed like they asked an attorney before they reply to each and every email. Heck, for all I know maybe they do, but that makes for horrible customer service.”
