Bare Bones Google – Dump the Frills
(rt) Gone are the days when Google struck the Web community in awe for its sheer minimalism. Where the then-greats such as Yahoo! and AltaVista cluttered up their home pages with tons of irritating, useless junk, those Stanford boys seemed to have caught onto the true sense of “lean and mean”.
Well, not all’s lost if you’re still nurturing your nostalgia for more ascetic web real estate development – and even Google’s still part of the equation. If you want to see (and use) their search mask without tabs, graphics, AdWords and get hold of some SEO wisening up into the bargain, here you are:
Results are filtered via → http://wmlproxy.google.com/.
On the mobile Internet (what used to be dominated by the WAP monniker), you’ll get the same here:
(For what’s probably the best current WAP browser, check out → WinWap here.)
It’s also interesting to compare results (though slight discrepancies are fairly standard, depending on which of their data centers you happen to access). Some examples (no explanations given – figure it out yourself):
More dramatically different (at least at time of writing):
→ Google search result 2a
[Keywords: mobile surfing, SEO/SEM resources, WAP ]
