Click Fraud From the Inside
(rt) Tim Yang reports on his recent e-mail exchange with a representative of an Indian ad clicking syndicate. Expectably, they are using Google to search for AdSense customers, soliciting their fraudulent business. However, it seems that this particular gentleman who contacted him wasn’t exactly up to par technologically. For instance, he was not aware of the fact
The ad-clicking syndicate doesn’t seem to be run by the technically-proficient but by the entrepreneurial.
Still – it may have been a pretty amateurish attempt but what it does indicate is that the concept has trickled down into the mainstream so we’ll probably see a lot more of it happening. Ironically enough, this fellow maintains an e-mail account with (you guessed it!) GMail. Tim, for whom this offer apparently wasn’t too good to turn down, even lists the address. (Hey, isn’t seduction a fun biz!)
Seems like an ideal venture for the Nigerian 419 scammers to chime in soon, too. This isn’t as funny as it may read: for all we know, activities like these aren’t even illegal in most jurisdictions …
