This one’s a beaut: What with the ongoing FUD tactics pursued by Google & Co. trashing paid links and junking up the industry forums and blogs with all the buzz this creates, out comes - entirely expectably - a super duper tool claiming to have mastered the technology to detect said paid links. Marketing pitch: “If we can do it, so can Google - so watch out!”
So can they? Well, if they actually can, here’s some very revealing stuff - and remember: you read it here first! Instead of calling it a day, yours truly surfed over to TextLinkCenter’s free Paid Link Detector tool (beta), and being the egotistical nerds all of us black hats are supposed to be, we checked our fantomNews index page.
So guess what we found? Sit down a minute, because this will blow you away - Google is actually buying links from us! And so does Live, does Yahoo!, does Danny Sullivan’s Sphinn, even Digg and Reddit: You name them, we sell them links, right here on this blog!
Ah, how filthy stinking rich this must make us! If this weren’t my own site, I’d sure go green with envy! Except… there’s a couple of flies in that neato ointment. Seems we’re even selling links to our own sites and pages - now how is that for a genius business model?
Now if only we could file this analysis for evidence when we go in for the kill, sueing all the major engines for link rental fees due! However, I’m afraid we’d be laughed out of court…

Well, if anyone’s dumb enough to fall for it, they’ve deserved to pay the full $39.95 this useless application is expected to cost when finally launched.
Or is it merely a brilliant satire, after all? Your guess.
